Missing You is a song featured on Tina Turner’s 1996 record Wildest Dreams, and the third single of that album. The song is a John Waite cover, who had a number one hit with it in 1984. The video for the song was filmed by photographer Peter Lindbergh, and was part of Tina’s promotional campaign for Hanes Hosiery. The song was also performed live during every night of the 1996/1997 Wildest Dreams tour. In this post, we look back at the origins of this song.
According to Wikipedia, Tina will receive on June 30,2013 a BET Lifetime Achievement Awards in Los Angeles. It would make sense since her good friend Oprah Winfrey will also receive an award in the Humanitarian category.
2013 also marks the 30 years of her come-back so this would be the ideal moment for her to receive such an honor.
Nothing sure for the moment, it is only a rumor but let’s hope it will happen and that it might announce something else for the rest of the year! Thanks to Larry for the tip!
Update: The info has been removed from Wikipedia so maybe we’ve been too naive about it, but if by any chance there’s further development, we’ll let you know.

Tina Turner was among the guests at the Opera Ball in Zurich in 2001. She was wearing the same Gianfranco Ferre dress that she wore for her 50th birthday in London in 1989 (photo above), but in a different color. She explains that when she bought it, she couldn’t decide on the color, so she took both, and that the dress had been hanging in her closet ever since. The video above is Tina Turner performing On Silent Wings live at Flanders Expo, Ghent in Belgium during her 1996 Wildest Dreams tour. On Silent Wings was the third single of Tina’s Wildest Dreams album, after Goldeneye and Whatever You Want, and was released in April 1996. The song was written by Tina’s longtime guitar player James Ralston, together with Swamp Rock legend Tony Joe White. The album version of the song features a cameo appearance by Sting: during her tour Sting’s vocal parts were performed by Tina’s other guitar player John Miles. The video above was recorded live on stage while Tina was on tour and was broadcast as part of the election of Miss Belgium television show in May 1996.
A 1993 tv interview on the Australian show A Current Affair, for the promotion for Tina Turner’s 1993 album, movie and tour What’s Love Got To Do With It. During the interview, Tina is confronted with footage of an earlier interview with her ex-husband Ike Turner, which creates an uncomfortable atmosphere. However, Tina manages to get through the interview gracefully, simply explaining ‘I don’t want to start an argument with Ike Turner via satellite’. Very interesting interview!
