Updated with better quality audio of the studio version thanks to Juerschen!
In 1982, Tina Turner contributed two songs to the soundtrack of the movie Summer Lovers. A cover of the Robert Palmer song Johnny and Mary and the song Crazy In The Night. The first song was also later released on the 1994 The Collected Recordings 60’s to 90’s compilation box set, while the song Crazy In The Night was never released on CD. Crazy In The Night is actually a song written by Garth Porter, member of Australian rock band Sherbet. This band was managed during the 1970’s by Tina’s manager Roger Davies. Lyrics
Somewhere out in the galaxy
A number’s up but not for me
There’s a light inside the window
And the curtain’s coming down
Pig is on the spit and turning round
Going crazy in the night
Crazy in the night
Dropped in from Munich with a master plan
Guess he left his wife and kids at home
He’s got so much money rollin
From the crimes he’ll commit
But the siamese cats are gonna take a little bit
Going crazy in the night
Crazy in the night
Will I turn and run or do I stand and face the gun…oh
Going crazy in the night
Everybody seemed to’ve lost their way
Crazy in the night
Seems there’s no way outta here
Do I turn and run….No!
Got no hands but I’ve got my head
I’ve come so far from the temple
Maybe this is Babylon or maybe it’s a dream
If it weren’t so beautiful, it would be obscene
Drinking with the panthers, dancing for their life
God, this place is hungry
Come and see the players but don’t stay for the show
The cats are out tonight, hungry for their rites
Going crazy in the night
Crazy in the night
Will I turn and run or do I stand and face the gun
Going crazy in the night
Everybody seemed to’ve lost their way
Crazy in the night
Seems there’s no way outta here
Will I turn and run…No
Got no hands but I’ve got my head
I’ve come so far from the temple
Maybe this is Babylon or maybe its a dream
If it weren’t so beautiful
Crazy in the night has been a longtime favorite of mine. Was fortunate to find a mint copy of the soundtrack on vinyl years ago.

Yes Lasse, that’s really a great song, lyrics are a bit strange but it’s very powerful. We also found the Summer Lover Lp in Berlin last year and did you noticed that the LP version of the song is actually different from the regular one. Unfortunately we don’t have anything to transfer LP to MP3…yet 😉

Did you leave a link to this DL? This is one of my all time favorite songs and I can’t find it anywhere. My LP of Summer Lovers was destroyed during a move, so I’m out of luck there. I keep looking for it through the years but haven’t had any luck. I did manage to find Johnny and Mary though.

bensjef: What did you mean with “the LP version of the song is actually different from the regular one”? What’s the “regular one”?
I transfered all songs, available only on vinyl, to CD. If you need some for the Blog ….

Sorry, it’s not a different version, but in this mp3, there is a short ‘skip’, caused by the lp. Maybe you have the song in mp3 or other audio file without the skip? Would be great!

How many times did Tina sing that song live?
OK, it on the Nice’N Rough Official Video, but I’ve never found Crazy in the night in that era besides that live video.

This song was not written by George Porter, it was written by Garth Porter from the Australian rock band Sherbs and it appeared originally on their album The Skill in 1980!

tommystar: I have not heard this anywhere other than Nice N Rough. So, Roger gave her this great song… they include it in Nice N Rough – great move, great Tina performance. She really blows the roof off on this song. A great crazy, song for that difficult, rebirthing transition she and Roger surmounted. To me, the song is abstract. organic, spirituality, mystical, power
