Tina Turner: “No Stage Come Back!”

Scroll down to content

Yvonne Beister interviewed Tina Turner last saturday in Berlin and asked her if she would come back on stage one day. Turner answered that she is not going to come back on stage – from now on she only wants to do things that will make her happy…

Translation of the interview (Thanks Anja):

XXL-heels, skin-tight leather pants, mini dress.
She is 72! And acts as if she was 48. Rock phenomenon Tina Turner (180 million discs sold)

Beauty secret?

“I’m always in motion, do gymnastics, do not eat too greasy and I surround myself with no negative thoughts.”

Happiness recipe?

“My spirituality. I had a hard time. The faith has made me strong. Everyone has a divine power in him that makes him strong. ”

Stage comeback?

“I come back no more. I will not go back to the stage in order to make people happy. From now on I will focus on making myself happy. ”

  2. TINA HAS SERVED HER TIME ON THE STAGE. ALL THE YEARS I HAVE SEEN HER ON TV AND LIVE IN CONCERTS, I HAVE THOSE MEMORIES AND ALWAYS WILL. SHE IS 72YRS OLD AND IT IS TIME FOR HER TO ENJOY HER SUCCESS AND TAKE CARE OF HERSELF FROM THIS DAY FORWARD. AS MUCH AS I WOULD LOVE FOR HER TO TOUR AGAIN, SHE CANT DO IT FOREVER, NO ONE CAN, SHE IS ONLY HUMAN AND SIMPLY THE BEST. LUV, MARK FROM THE U.S.

  4. I saw Tina thirteen times live between 1987 and 2009. It was always a highlight to go to a Tina concert and I always compared other artists in concert with her … Tina was always the best!! Special! Exciting! But I think it is ok if she takes the decision not to go on tour anymore… So what can all her millions and millions of fans expect for the future… my wishes are:
    – a complete collection on dvd/blu-ray of all her official videos
    – remastered versions of all her concert videos & “I, Tina” in blu-ray/HD
    – remastered versions of all her studio albums with previously unreleased bonus tracks; perhaps a big box of her albums beginning with “Tina Turns The Country On” up to “Twenty Four Seven” with a bonus CD with aller her non-album and compliation tracks like “Open Arms”, “I’m Ready”, etc.
    – and perhaps sometime a new studio album with a “new Tina”, warm, relaxing music

  5. I respect Tina’s decision, but to say she is not concerned with making others happy is a bit selfish. Is it too much to ask for a new studio album of jazz standards or rock ballads? To keep your fans close, our only interaction with Tina is through her music, to severe that cord is detrimental to our musical health. I’m not berating Tina, but I wish she think a little about her decision 🙂

  6. I was lucky enough to be on the front row 3 times on the last tour, so I have great memories and photos. Tina has been saying since 1987 that each tour is her farewell! I never expected her to come back after seeing her on the 24/7 tour, so who knows- Tina always surprises us! Happy retirement Tina- Love you x

  7. As long as Tina is happy, I will be happy for her. Tina is full of surprises and who knows, let’s be honest we didn’t expect the 50th anniversary tour. If she does come back I’ll be happy and hopefully I can see the show if it does happen.

  8. I would love to see Tina back on Tour, but she knows her limits. Her last tour was amazing, the woman was 69 years old… and that was a great closure. I would not like to see Tina being a caricature of herself. She’s still in shape, still looks beautiful and still has the voice, but a gruelling Tour is not easy. Maybe it would be better for her to do other types of work: the Beyond project, a new studio album, an ocasional Theather concert. For now, I would love to see her 80’s albums and tours remastered, being released in DVD, Blue-Ray, etc. The Barcelona 1990 concert deserves to be released officially. And Tina has no Blue-Ray releases… and that’s strange. Her back catalog seems a little bit forgotten by her record label… and this is unforgivable.

    1. Yes there’s still A LOT to do concerning Tina’s music & video catalogue. All the HD stuff so far comes from HDTV rip or “Beyond” videos. And i am sure they have a lot of “never released” material…They are probably keeping this for later… I am sure she’ll be involved again in the “Beyond” project with a new album. If this is what she enjoys then fine for me.

through out the world. She is working with children and still singing. “When you sing you do the right thing…..”. Keep up the great work. You will always be an inspiration. NamMyohoRengeKyo.

  12. Is there a transcript of Tina’s original words in English available somewhere?

These statements from Tina have already gone through two translators — from English to German for the Bild article, and then from that German to English for Anja’s post.

The general idea is probably right, but I’d like to be able to read Tina’s actual words, wouldn’t you?

    1. There’s no transcript of the interview. I can only say that the translation from German to English is correct. But what words Tina actually spoke to the journalist, nobody knows.

I know I’m late on the topic but I really wish I had the chance to see Tina on the stage but only discovering Tina’s music early last year I have never had the chance to see her live and having fallen in love with her music it’s hard to think that I won’t see her live 😦 but maybe one day, you have to keep that hope alive. But I am happy to know that she is happy with her life and maybe one day it will make her happy again to return to the stage

  15. Tina Turner is the ultimate queen of stage. Although I would so love some more music I know this time is for her to relax and enjoy the fruit of the hard labor. I saw the Queen 11 times in concert and each was better than the last. I begin each of my Birthdays with the Private Dancer album. No other artist will ever touch your hard work Tina. I respect you more than any other artist.

    1. Thanks for commenting Donny, 11 concerts that great! And the hardest working woman in show business worked really hard for her money and she deserves her rest! Although we really miss her!
Keep on going with the Private Dancer album tradition on your birthday, that’s lovely 😉

  16. It makes me so happy to constantly read all this buzz about my mother afters years away from the “performing stage” ;). All the kind words said about her and respect for her legacy and all she’s given to the music world and her fans. As a son it was always awe inspiring to see stadiums of crowds, encompassing all the generations and cuspers, go so crazy for her. It’s like “wait, that’s my mom and she’s rockin’ the place out and electrifying the crowd!” She does miss aspects of touring and that connection to the fan community, but she gave everything she had, plus 500% more, and then came back in 09 for one final bow and of course to celebrate such a rare milestone. So that’s it! But, I’ll let you in on one small secret, which won’t shock fans: she still has it and could do it as great as she ever did, at 73!
