Today, the one and only Bruce Springsteen turns 63! In honor of Bruce’s birthday, we take a closer look at the cover that Tina did of his hit record Dancing In The Dark. Bruce and Tina both released their biggest selling albums in 1984: Born In The USA and Private Dancer. Both undertook massive world tours in 1984/1985 to promote their records, they were the biggest music stars of that moment. In 1985, they were both part of the We Are The World single, for the USA for Africa charity project. It was around that time that Tina asked Bruce to write a song for her. Bruce had already written a couple of hit songs for other female artists (Patti Smith’s ‘Because The Night’ and ‘Fire’ for the Pointer Sisters), so it was no coincidence that Tina had set her eyes on The Boss. Unfortunately, for one reason or another, a true Bruce and Tina collaboration never came into being. Instead, Tina covered Dancing In The Dark during her 1985 Private Dancer tour, as well as in the beginning of the 1987 Break Every Rule tour. To celebrate Springsteen’s birthday, watch Tina belting out this classic during her 1985 concert in Tokyo, and listen to an audience recording of the song from Paris 1987. Happy birthday Bruce!

    1. Hi Lousina, well it’s not the highest quality ever we admit but the audio is still enjoyable and compared to some other Tina bootlegs, this one is very acceptable…
Anyway, thanks for commenting and of course congrats to Bruuuuuce!

      1. For example, there is one of them in the booklet which comes with The Collected Recordings. The other one, I have to remember where it is. Let me see.

      2. I’ve found the photo you mentioned in the CR booklet! So the pic rings a bell but i don’t know why i thought it was during Prince’s Trust concert so it could be indeed something different… Did you find any info on your side?

  3. Now I remember: I asked about this in another blog; then someone called “thebiglad” told me they sung this song, and “jessicagirl” sent me the pics. The dress she´s wearing is definitely not the one she wore at the Prince´s Trust on 1986. It´s the same one she used to wear at the end of the Private Dancer concerts. So, it may be they sung this song together. But I don´t know when or where did this happen.

      1. I´ll be waiting! Just in case we could find a recording of it, even if it seems impossible. But I love Tina´s duets very much, and this one would be great to watch/listen. Thanks guys!

      2. Hey Tinaroo, here is the reply i got from Alan concerning “DINTD” with Elton & Tina:

“Yeah, they did it at Wembley in 85, there are a few photographs in it.
Maybe it wasnt Wembley when I think of it, perhaps Birmingham. It was in the UK though, they had both appeared on the 1st ever edition of the UK chat show Wogan at the same time. In the photograph of them singing Dancing, Elton has the lyrics written on some paper. A colour photograph of the two of them performing it in one of the two Tina books, Take You Higher by Chris Welch or Tina the large book with the colour cover of her in the black leather jacket and trousers outfit from P Danver tour”.

I don’t think there’s any bootleg about them performing together but i am sure it will see the light of the day sometimes!

  4. Thanks so much, my friends. I also prefer to think that we´ll have the chance to find this duet farther up on the road. Thanks again!
