Tina Turner’s classic album Private Dancer was a huge global success on its release in June 1984 and became Tina Turner’s breakthrough solo album, thanks in part to an 18-month single release schedule that saw no fewer than seven songs from the ten-track album released in various territories, including ‘What’s Love Got to Do With It’, ‘Better Be Good To Me’, ‘Private Dancer’ and a cover of Al Green’s ‘Let’s Stay Together’.
To celebrate this 30 year milestone we are releasing an extra special Anniversary Edition. This edition compiles the remastered album and a second disc which features Ball Of Confusion (That’s What The World Is Today) (with B.E.F.), recorded with Martin Ware from Heaven 17, and which lead to him producing the lead single from Private Dancer ‘Let’s Stay Together’. It also features 12” mixes and b-sides as well as three non-album singles, including the duet with Bryan Adams ‘It’s Only Love’.

Well, I’m pretty/rather/very satisfied with this track listing. Sums up what most of us wanted. Finally we get the complete B-sides, and I wonder if this is the 1982 version of “Ball Of Confusion”, as opposed to the now-prevalent remix. The MAD MAX BEYOND THUNDERDOME material is a great addition, since it took place in the midst of the PD era…now, if this version of “One Of The Living” were the original theatrical version, which painfully ends within the 2-minute mark, that would be worth the price of the entire package alone.
I’m hoping/assuming that this will be a special 2014/15 21st Century remastering of the classic album. Since this is a Japanese-exclusive release, I’m intrigued as to which format audio they’re releasing it in: standard, SHM-CD, Blu-spec CD2, HDCD, or HQCD, or in more than one. Hopefully, the Japanese will lavish this reissue/release in a beautiful papersleeve mini-2-LP replica CD design (which the Japanese are so great at doing) of the complete, original 1984 edition artwork, lyrics, and liner notes. I’m really hoping we get some informative essay about the historicism of the album, its creation, and legacy. I really hope Ms. Turner gives a brief introductory note in the package, since I’d like to know her overall thoughts on the album.

I know I am Tina’s #1 fan seen her in person in Philadelphia on her finale tour. Gave her flowers at least I hope her security gave them to her. Her performance was absolutely the BEST and she is more beautiful in person.

Well… I’m quite disappointed. Most of that stuff has been released before. I was hoping for an official DVD not only with all the music videos but with the complete Private Dancer concert, with all the songs.

I agree, Glam. I have a feeling that the official Private Dancer Tour 1985 DVD might/may come after this release. Remember, it took them a year to release a 30th Anniversary album, which has now made it 31 years to be exact.
