The first single from the upcoming TINA, The Musical cast album is released today, to download and stream here! Produced by the producers of TINA, The Musical, and Ghostlight Records featuring Adrienne Warren performing the iconic song River Deep – Mountain High. Warren, who has played the role in the hit West End production since its world premiere, is featured on an accompanying music video of the single also released today.

TINA: “I am thrilled that Adrienne has picked up the mantle and not only risen to the challenge but made this moment one of my very favourites in the musical. It is so right that this is the first single to be released from our cast album. She makes me very proud”.

River Deep – Mountain High was recorded in January 2019 at Angel Studios and produced by TINA, The Musical’s Musical Supervisor, Nicholas Skilbeck.

TINA “At that very difficult time in my life, recording this song opened my eyes to possibilities. I felt liberated, excited, ready to challenge myself vocally. River Deep – Mountain High introduced me to the way I wanted to sing. I am thrilled that Adrienne has picked up the mantle and not only risen to the challenge but made this moment one of my very favourites in the musical. It is so right that this is the first single to be released from our cast album. She makes me very proud”.

Tina Turner famously recorded in 1966, produced by Phil Spector as his ground-breaking masterpiece using his trademark Wall of Sound music technique. Turner would later recall, “I must have sung that 500,000 times. I was drenched with sweat. I had to take my shirt off and stand there in my bra to sing”. George Harrison, who worked with Spector when he later produced Let It Be for the Beatles, would later call it ‘a perfect record from start to finish’.

Kurt Deutsch, Founder of Ghostlight Records : “Tina – The Tina Turner Musical has taken London by storm and, starting with this single, the world will get to hear what everyone has been talking about. Tina Turner is a music icon and Ghostlight Records is proud to create a cast album of this triumphant musical, its magnificent songs, and of course the star-making performance of leading lady Adrienne Warren.”

Last month over 200,000 new tickets were released for sale for TINA – THE TINA TURNER MUSICAL, the show based on the life of legendary artist Tina Turner, with bookings now being taken at the Aldwych Theatre to Saturday 21 December 2019.

Directed by Phyllida Lloyd and written by Katori Hall with Frank Ketelaar and Kees Prins, TINA, The Musical is choreographed by Anthony van Laast, with set and costume designs by Mark Thompson, musical supervision by Nicholas Skilbeck, lighting by Bruno Poet, sound by Nevin Steinberg, projection design by Jeff Sugg and orchestrations by Ethan Popp.

Tali Pelman, Producer of TINA: ”River Deep – Mountain High is a pivotal moment in the musical where Tina finds her voice as a solo artist. It was a turning point for Tina personally and is an epic moment in our show. It demands not only an extraordinary vocal talent but immense passion and fearlessness. To hear and watch Adrienne perform this song night after night is electrifying, and I am thrilled to have it captured here.”

From humble beginnings in Nutbush, Tennessee, to her transformation into the global Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll, Tina Turner didn’t just break the rules, she rewrote them. This new stage musical, presented in association with Tina Turner herself, reveals the untold story of a woman who dared to defy the bounds of her age, gender and race.

The critically acclaimed production received its world premiere in April 2018 in London and subsequently has broken all Box Office records at the Aldwych Theatre. Next month, the German premiere of TINA, The Musical begins performances at the Stage Operettenhaus in Hamburg and the musical will have its Broadway premiere in Autumn 2019.

  1. In my opinion Warner is a big mistake. He has bad, weak, and average voice, she has not charisma. As Tina fan I feel me insulting when such person like Warner are profanating Tinas song. Stop promote this woman on Tinas blog, she didnt deserve it! And she is impertinently trying to promote herself on Tina’s name. And giving Warner on Broadway is a shame and an injustice. She didnt deserve it. She screams with an ugly voice, she have no voice. Please stop promoting and profane Tina’s songs, you are insulting Tinas fans by doing this. I love Tina, Tina has an amazing talent and voice and Tina is just only one.

  2. I totally disagree with the poster above. And it’s WARREN, not Warner… Ugh. Anyway, I think she sounds great. Tina thinks she sounds great. I think, and most fans, think she’s done Tina proud and been an honorable, charismatic ambassador for Tina on the West End and EVERY BIT deserves to bring the musical now to Broadway. I wish the official video showed a little bit more of the musical, like perhaps the set from when Tina’s in Spector’s studio in that giant sound stage… But I think the musical has been very classy in the way it’s been executed, cast, and marketed. I am most looking forward to hearing Lorna Gayle sing “Don’t Turn Around” as Grandma GG!

    1. Even in Tina’s book, is written Warner. This is not a name worth remembering. I heard Warner and unfortunately she is terrible. He has a very average voice, ugly, weak. He screams, jumps on those crooked legs. It is grotesque. Terrible.I can not stand her, I can not look at her or listen to her. For this role they should take someone with a good voice. .Warner has a weak voice. I heard many copies of Tina and Warner is one of the worst. I have no idea why Tina praises her .But I do not think Tina is serious about it. I do not believe she likes Warner. Maybe Tina prefers someone weak to this role. Besides, Tina will not beat anyway nobody.

  3. And please do not talk about the majority of fans. Most of Tina’s fans will never go to this musical or say that Warner is good. Tina’s concerts were among the best in the world. Musical will not even compare to these concerts to a small extent. Tina and her musicians showed the highest level in the world. This Musical is a weak voice of Warner, weak musicians, it all sounds bad. For me, this Musical is tacky.

  4. That is a typo on Adrienne’s last name in some editions/printings of the book. Wow… Your negativity is endless. I guess Tina fans even have some online trolls in our midst. If you don’t like the musical, just don’t engage with it, but you don’t need to attack the star. You’re critique is wildly negative and spiteful and I can speak for most “normal” Tina fans because they’re my “family” and are beautiful people! Mu-ah!

  5. Someone who express his own true opinion is troll for you? Why tou cant accept others opinion without insulting? You are just poory brought up if you insulting me. Do I offend you, I challenge you for trolls because you have a different opinion? If someone plays in a musical, it must count with criticism. I am trying to promote herself on Tina’s back, I do not like it, I do not like also hers weak vocal. She isnt a star, star is Tina. This musicall is useless. Fans who love Tina’s voice do not want her songs sung by someone else. I have wonderful Tinas kodcerts on youtube, her recordings. I love real Tina and not her poor giblets. And if this musical aims at the promotion of Mrs Warner who does not deserve it, the more I say no.

    1. Hi! Whoever you are you have made your point clear by spamming the blog multiple time, being more and more insulting and nasty. I am not one to censor but at some point enough is enough. Please refrain on your harsh comments or you’ll get blocked. Best – Ben

  6. I’m sorry but I’m not offending nobody with word troll. Attention should be returned to both parties and not only to me. Unless you accept insults on the blog. I hope you accept critical opinions. But you’re right, I should write it once. However, I was unnecessarily provoking by Justin’s rude utterance.
    cheers

  8. Maybe if Tina Turner lover were to look at what Tina has done it might help not be so negative. On another post I wrote in the comments about one of Tina’s songs, Dancing in My Dreams. One line goes ” on and on the story goes, like the passing of the torch” Tina has passed her story and torch to Adrienne Warren . How much that personal success, of passing the name Tina Turner to another, is up to Adrienne herself. There are many cases of others taking the stage and songs of a famous artist but not usually when they are still alive. This can be viewed as being a very generous gift that Tina has given when she herself has finished with the name Tina Turner.
