Ike & Tina ‘Taking Off’ in HD: Goodbye, So Long!
This is a very unusual moment in Tina Turner’s career. Ike & Tina appeared in a movie directed by Milos Forman called Taking Off released in 1971. The movie received the Golden Palm in Cannes and was nominated for several BAFTA awards. Ike & Tina are not directly related to the story of the movie; at some point during the film, the main characters just wants to have some fun and forget their worries, so what better way to do so than going to an Ike & Tina concert! On September 28, Tina Turner together with Regula Curti and Dechen Shak-Dagsay and a group of 30 children presented their new spirtual album Children Beyond in Zurich, Switzerland. 26 years ago today: Tina Turner & Mick Jagger perform during Live Aid
26 years ago today, Tina Turner performed together with Mick Jagger at the Philadelphia concert of the Live Aid charity event organized by Bob Geldof to raise money for the famine in Ethiopia. Tina was invited at the last minute by Mick, and they performed two songs together; State of Shock (originally a duet of Mick Jagger with Michael Jackson) and the Rolling Stones classic It’s Only Rock ‘N’ Roll. There was very little rehearsal time: Tina wrote the lyrics to the song on her arm and Mick ripped off Tina’s skirt by surprise. Below you will find HQ photos from this performance.
