A New TINA Biography?

Tina Turner - Dominik Wichmann - new book-2017

I, Tina 2 ? Exciting news that started with a late tweet posted last night by German journalist and author Dominik WichmannTina Turner - Dominik Wichmann - new book-2017.jpg

More than twenty years after the release of the Queen of Rock’s biography I, Tina written in collaboration with Kurt Loder and with the upcoming TINA Musical opening in London next year, it seems appropriate to finally give a follow up the 1986 memoir.

Fans have been waiting for a long time for a sequel of the best selling book, focusing on Turner’s post comeback career and since the news broke up, TINA Fans Groups are already in emulation!

Comics TINA

Ike & Tina Turner Story - Comics 2017 - 2CDs

I had been waiting for years for BDMUSIC, a French publishing company, to release the story of Ike & Tina on comics for years. With previous releases about Nat King Cole, Nina Simone, Bob Dylan, Joan Baez it was predictable that Tina’s story would see the light of the day on such format at some point. The book is divided in 2 parts, the comics part in itself (28 pages) and a biography (both in French and English) together with a 2CDs set of Ike & Tina music from 1960 to 1962 and 1968 to 1969.

If the drawings are pretty well made and the book in itself looks nice, the content isn’t as good as fans could expect from such a release. The story told is more inspired from the movie ‘What’s Love Got To Do With It’ than from Ike or Tina personal biographies. So there’s a few inaccuracy in the story but I guess that’s wasn’t the aim of the author. Benoit Bonte tells the story of the notorious couple through big events of their life together, such as their meeting in St Louis, Tina’s first step on stage, life at home, the recording of River Deep Mountain High and the final split.

Having previously written comics on Jerry Lee Lewis & Howlin’ Wolf, Benoit Bonte has clearly a soft spot for Ike and for once, the rock’n’roll genius that he is, is not portrayed in a too devilish way. Concerning Tina, she seems quite transparent in the story, some lack of depth from her character, some inaccuracy and the slang language makes it hardly believable.

All in all, a huge expectation from the moment I heard this would come out and a small disappointment. The two CDS accompanying the book are also a letdown. The audio is correct but nothing exceptional and the tracklist is kind of surprising with songs such a River Deep or Proud Mary missing. But of course it is still a nice object for all the fans to add to your collection so if you feel like ordering it follow the link!

The Pompeii Recordings (2016)

ike-tina-turner-complete-pompei-recordings-boxset-2016-cover

It was in the mail this morning… And it was a real surprise! I have lost track of the numerous re-releases of Ike & Tina Turner materials and the vast majority is just random songs put together with a random title and poor audio quality…But for this new release, Cleopatra Records has seen things in big and succeed!

The dynamic Ike & Tina Turner released all of these raw recordings for the Pompeii Label in the late 1960’s. This digitally remastered, deluxe 3D set features three complete albums (in mini sleeves that duplicate their original LP jackets) along with informative liner notes, photos, and much more!

During a fascinating career that was as triumphant and groundbreaking as it was erratic and turbulent, Ike & Tina Turner became one of the most prolific recording duos of their time. Between 1960 &; 1970 the pair cut for at least 10 different record labels resulting in nearly 70 singles and some 20 albums. This set which features material they released through Pompeii Records from 1968 and 1969, coincides closely – as well as confusingly – with titles released by the Blue Thumb label during those same years which would result in a total of 6 albums consisting of, for the most part, new material. Bear in mind, this was accomplished while the duo toured regularly both here and abroad (reportedly 300 shows a year), made innumerable television appearances, and managed to raise a family…

Please, Please, Please

Some great news for all of us fans that just popped up this week!

First, Ike & Tina coming on Blu-Ray. A pair of classic Sixties concert films, 1964’s T.A.M.I. Show and its 1966 follow-up The Big T.N.T. Show, will come to Blu-ray together for the first time this December as a two-disc collection’s edition. For the Blu-ray release, both films received a high-definition transfer, as evidenced by the first sample of the upcoming release: Ike & Tina Turner’s explosive cover of James Brown’s “Please, Please, Please” from The Big T.N.T. Show. Pre-Order here!

Second, Goldenlane records is set to release a 3 cd Box Set of Ike & Tina Turner recordings under the Pompeii Label. Between 1960 and 1970, the groundbreaking, erratic, and turbulent couple/duo recorded music for a whopping ten plus record labels resulting in nearly 70 singles and some 20 albums. According to a press release, during these recordings Ike & Tina “toured regularly both here and abroad (reportedly averaging some 300 shows a year), made frequent television appearances, and managed to raise a family.”

Anyhow, from 1968-1969, the duo cut a plethora of songs with Pompeii Records, and now the catalog is available on a 3-CD set dubbed ‘The Complete Pompeii Recordings 1968-1969.’

The 3-CD box set will be available starting September 23 from Goldenlane Records, a division of Cleopatra Records, Inc. Pre-Order here!

We will review the BluRay & the Boxset as soon as we’ll get them so stay tune! And please, please, please, we want more releases like those!

Private Dancer “30th Anniversary” Track list

Tina Turner - Private Dancer 30th Anniversary Edition (Warner Japan 2015)

Tina Turner’s classic album Private Dancer was a huge global success on its release in June 1984 and became Tina Turner’s breakthrough solo album, thanks in part to an 18-month single release schedule that saw no fewer than seven songs from the ten-track album released in various territories, including ‘What’s Love Got to Do With It’, ‘Better Be Good To Me’, ‘Private Dancer’ and a cover of Al Green’s ‘Let’s Stay Together’.
To celebrate this 30 year milestone we are releasing an extra special Anniversary Edition. This edition compiles the remastered album and a second disc which features Ball Of Confusion (That’s What The World Is Today) (with B.E.F.), recorded with Martin Ware from Heaven 17, and which lead to him producing the lead single from Private Dancer ‘Let’s Stay Together’. It also features 12” mixes and b-sides as well as three non-album singles, including the duet with Bryan Adams ‘It’s Only Love’.

Tina Turner talks about “Children Beyond” – September 13, 2011

Here is a comment wrote by Tina:

I was born into a baptist family. I went to church every sunday. The preacher were speaking the words of God. I didn’t hear what the preacher said but it was the environnment. It was the peoples Amen in agreeing what the preacher said and then we had a young baptist reunion to learn about the bible. It helps, I don’t remember it helped me to be a better person but it put me in touch with information about God and Jesus, the truth and being nice to people. That was a part of my life when I was 11 or 12. I continued with the Lords prayer because my mother tought us that that will help us. And I kept the Lords Prayer straight through life until I was introduced to Buddhism. But it didn’t matter that I changed from Baptist to Buddhist because I learned later that it is the same. I used different words…. maybe I needed different words.

Our Music BEYOND carries the message that we are all from one source. Therefore I live Baptism and Buddhism.

Love,

Tina
