What is Tina Turner doing today.

Honoring TINA

TINA GRAMMY.jpg
From  CNN to Rolling Stones going through Billboard, TINA has made worldwide headlines earlier this week when it was announced that the Queen of Rock would be among the 2018 recipient of the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. The 60th Grammy Ceremony will take place January 28th but no announcement of Tina’s presence there so far. However,  a special gala event  organised every year by the Recording Academy in the summer for the winners of the year’s Grammy Merit Awards, there’s probably more chances to see Tina there!

In order to celebrate this wonderful honour, which made fans proud and delighted for their idol, I wanted to do a one minute video recap of TINA’s solo videoclips but soon realised that it was impossible to sum up everything under one minute so, it ended being  a 4 minutes TINA Trivia Tribute video! Hope you’ll enjoy and be sure to subscribe to the blog to get all the latest info on TINA and the upcoming Grammy Event!

TINA to receive Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award

Tina Turner Grammy 1985
We were all waiting to see what kind of surprises 2018 would offer and it started earlier today with the statement released by the Recording Academy indicating that Tina Turner would be among the recipients of the 2018 Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award!

Marking the Grammy’s 60th ceremony but also Tina’s 60th Anniversary in the music business, it was the year it was supposed to happen. Ten years ago, Tina teamed up with Beyonce for what would become another legendary performance from the Queen of Rock and Queen Bey.

Tina Turner is the winner of 8 Grammys and has been nominated 25 times.

This year other honorees include  Neil Diamond, Emmylou Harris, Louis Jordan and English Rock band Queen. A special award presentation ceremony and concert celebrating the honorees will be held in summer 2018. Additional details regarding the ceremony will be announced in the coming weeks.

Heralded as the Queen of Rock and Roll, Turner remains a global recording star worldwide. She earned her first GRAMMY at the 14th GRAMMY Awards with Ike Turner for their rendition of “Proud Mary,” which took home Best R&B Vocal Performance By A Group. She’s since added an additional seven wins to her tally, most recently as a featured artist on Herbie Hancock‘s Album Of The Year-winning River: The Joni Letters at the 50th GRAMMY Awards.

Congratulations TINA!

2018: A Very TINA Year

Tina Turner Live London 2007

What would have little Anna Mae thought some 70 years ago back in Nutbush if someone had told that many moons later, her life and career would be celebrated worldwide? I was recently showing footage of Tina to a friend who isn’t familiar with Tina’s work and while watching the rocker arrival on stage in Amsterdam back in 1996 he declared in awe ‘She is like a Queen’. And although I had used the term ‘Queen’ many times to talk about T.T, it felt like I heard it differently this time and I don’t know why the piece of music by Grieg entitled ‘In The Hall of the Mountain King’ popped into my mind. I always thought it would be exciting to mix classical music with Tina’s wild performances and that’s how the idea for a video tribute celebrating Tina’s 6Oth Anniversary in the music business was born. And the Mountain Queen sounds pretty appropriate for Swiss citizen Tina.

While 2017 had already been a really exciting year for fans, 2018 will bring the Queen of Rock back into the spotlight with many important events coming throughout the year.
First, March 2018 with the opening of the most anticipated musical of the year TINA, The Musical, in London. We’ve been waiting for it for years and the big day is only a couple of month away! You might also have heard that other Musicals based on the music of the like of Cher and Donna Summer to name a few will also soon see the light of day. Although they are often mentioned all together in articles, those are announced as jukebox musicals, unlike TINA which will offer the public a story, characters with depth, and a link between songs à la Mama Mia. The best of the best in terms of theatre production is working on the project at this moment and we can be confident that they won’t disappoint. Fans will gather one more time on the night of March 21st, stay tuned for more info!

Second, a follow-up to Tina’s 1986 biography ‘I,TINA’ will see the light of say in October 2018! Atria announced last December that the book would be published during fall of this year with the help of authors Dominik Wichmann and Deborah Davis. ‘Tina Turner: My Love Story‘ will also be released as an audio-book by Simon & Schuster.

And finally, 2018 will be the occasion to celebrate several milestones from Tina’s career such as the 30th Anniversary of the record-breaking Rio concert, the 10th anniversary of Tina’s last concert tour back in 2008/2009 or the 40th anniversary of the Rough album, to name a few. But of course, let’s hope that this year will bring some even more surprises and exciting TINA stuff!
Happy New Year Everybody!

TINA: ‘My Love Story’

Tina Turner - close up.jpg

You read about it here a while ago and today it is confirmed! A sequel to Tina’s 1986 biography written in collaboration with Kurt Loder will see the light of day in 2018 with the help of authors Dominik Wichmann and Deborah Davis. Atria Books confirmed the release of the new biography entitled ‘Tina Turner: My Love Story‘ and its release in October 2018, timed to the legend’s 60th year in music. The new biography will also be released as an audio-book by Simon & Schuster.

My Love Story is being described as a follow-up to Turner’s I, Tina, which was eventually adapted into the celebrated biopic What’s Love Got to Do With It starring Angela Bassett. Tina candidly examines her personal history and reveals her happiest – and darkest – hours. Emphatically showcasing Tina’s signature blend of strength, energy, heart, and soul, this is a thrilling memoir as compelling and entertaining as any of her greatest hits.

“My real story, in its entirety, has never been told. I wanted to talk candidly about the past and the present: finding love, my struggle with a previously undisclosed, life-threatening illness and, thankfully, today’s happy endings.“

Tina Turner: My Love Story will be published by Atria next October.

Happy Birthday TINA

It might be painful having to watch him on stage, but I know he’s being played by an actor and he can’t hurt me

Tina worked closely with director Phyllida Lloyd, writer Katori Hall and producer Tali Pelman, the three main architects of the musical based on Turner’s turbulent years with her first husband and her years of freedom when she summoned the courage to walk out on Ike.

Proud TINA!

Tina Turner - Jonathan Ross Show 18.jpg - copieHappily retired music legend Tina Turner appeared tonight on the Jonathan Ross Show on ITV. And what incredible joy for us fans to see Tina looking healthy, serein, funny and back in the spotlight for a short while.

Wearing a chic comfy ensemble, the idol arrived on the set of the show with a really cool ‘TINA, The Musical’ bag, the diva opened up about her retirement, her old pals Mick Jagger and David Bowie and of course, the point of the evening, the upcoming musical on her life opening next year in London.

Talking about the upcoming musical, Tina reveals that the story will start all the way back in the cotton fields, being raised by her grandmother in her native Nutbush as well as her debuts in Saint Louis with Ike Turner:

It starts from Nutbush growing up, all the involvment with the coton fields, church house, gin house, school house, out house, it really quite old now but it’s still there… It starts with that, it starts with the grandmother raising me and all of the early stages into moving into teenager and then into St Louis

Later on the show, Jonathan Ross mentions Tina’s collaboration with David Bowie, and the retired singer has some pretty emotional words about her late good friend:

“I saw him, he was performing some place in Brussels and I went to see him and that was the actual last time I went to his dressing room and said hello and talked about the show.

“I remember the last thing he said. He said, ‘I love you Tina’ and I said ‘I love you David.’

The next thing I heard he was sick and then after that I saw Iman and asked her how he was and she said “He is Ok” but they kept it undercover and then the news came through.”

If you are talking about David, you cannot forget to mention Mick whom Tina had just happened to see recently while The Rolling Stones were playing in Zurich. On her past collaborations with Jagger she said:

“First of all, Mick wanted to do the dance.

“David was just a gentleman, being there in some kind of way, trying to find out what he wanted to do with Tina.

“They were like brothers, kind of like brothers or close, close, close friends and then I ended up doing an album with David and a live show.”

Evidently, even 40 years after her split from Ike Turner, the shadow of the late musician is always there when it comes to interviewers. Tina doesn’t like to dwell on the past and has long forgotten Ike but it seems that as long as there will be interviews, he’ll somehow pop up somewhere in the conversation. When asked about her ex-husband and music partner, the constant abuse she suffered, the absence of freedom, Tina recalls:

I walked out without anything and had to make it on my own for my family and everyone so I just went back to work for myself,” she explained. “It was very difficult and dangerous because Ike was a violent person and at that point, he was on drugs and very insecure. I had no money. I had no place to go.

And when Tina found the courage and strength to leave this nightmarish life, one harrowing night in Dallas, she almost lost her own life running across a freeway:

I didn’t measure the speed of a car. I was running across the freeway and this big truck was coming and it (beeped its horn). It felt like it was over me and I thought, ‘Well, I won’t try that again,'” Turner recalled.

“It was just time to not take any more. It was constantly abusive, other things going on, there was no control, there was no freedom, it was just the same this, same this and the violence. You just get fed up and you say, ‘Life is not worth living if I’m going to stay in this situation.

Happy in retirement? Tina Turner certainly is! Unlike many stars, Tina doesn’t crave for the spotlight and her Swiss home is where her heart is. Still having a lot of golden years ahead of her, and to conclude with the words of Jonathan Ross: If someone really deserves the best of retirement, that is you, TINA! You truly earned it! We love you!

Don’t Miss TINA

TINA is Back!

Tina Turner Now - 2017 (Tina Turner at 77)

Over the past eight years, the legendary Tina Turner has made worldwide headlines mostly without having to leave her peaceful retreat on the shore of Zurich’s Lake. Her name alone is sufficient to sell papers and her rarity makes her even more unreachable. But for now, the reclusive singer is back to promote the most anticipated musical of 2018, TINA, The Musical!

‘I get cards and letters. People say I gave them hope. It means so much to people. I have to pass it on. I really want it to be a success. I hope it will travel the world and serve what that the people need, from me as a reminder of my work.’

Earlier this week, a radiant Tina appeared in front of 150 happy few to introduce the very talented Adrienne Warren who will play her part in the upcoming musical. Looking incredible at nearly 78, Tina even took the stage with Warren to perform a short medley of her greatest hits. Needless to say, the atmosphere must have been electric! Being a faithful supporter of the musical since the beginning and after 8 years of blogging on TINA, gaining more than 500.000k followers, I wished I could have been there to report on this once in a lifetime event but that didn’t happen… Maybe another time… Tina showed there’s always hope so there’s still hope! But of course, no one wants to read about a sad blogger feelings, back to the Queen!

To continue with the promotion of the upcoming musical, Tina will appear on the Jonathan Ross Show broadcasted on the UK channel ITV,  Saturday, October 28th, 2017. The singer has even been spotted at the network studios right after the musical launch party creating a small buzz on Twitter! A major TV moment to look forward to being Tina’s first European interview since the promotion of ‘All The Best‘ back in 2004. Tina’s last long featured interview was of course with Oprah a few weeks after her wedding back in 2013.

Exciting times for all of us fans and we can bet that there will be much more inspiring and surprising things coming from TINA and the musical in the forthcoming months. Tickets are already selling like hot cakes and fans across the world are already asking for the show to visit their country. With the huge team of talents working on the musical, we can be pretty confident that it will be a tremendous hit. Tina always got the best simply because She is The Best!
