We have been working on the musical for over a year now and today I am delighted to be able to share our news as we begin the next chapter of our journey. It has been wonderful to collaborate with Katori and Phyllida and to have my story nurtured by such an amazing creative team is thrilling. Tina was spotted today in Rotterdam, attending the opening of Peter Lindbergh photo exhibition. Tina has been photographed many times by the artist, their most famous collaboration being the Hanes campaign and the Missing You video clip that Lindbergh shot in 1996.

“The lotus is a flower that grows in the mud. The thicker the mud, the more beautiful the flower blooms.” This Buddhist wisdom certainly rings true for Tina Turner’s life story. The seed of Tina Turner was planted deep in the Tennessee mud, Nutbush to be precise. A small town in the deep-south of the United States. Tina is not a person for nostalgia. So when she left Nutbush in her mid-teens, she hardly ever looked back.
By Erin Shaw Street – You know that Tina Turner song “Nutbush City Limits?” It’s about a real place–Nutbush, Tennessee, where she grew up. (Go on, you know you want to dance in your chair just thinking of the melody.) This week a museum dedicated to Tina’s legacy–and the community where she was raised–opens just down the road from Nutbush. The Flagg Grove School, where she spent her formative years, opens to the public this Friday after a painstaking restoration.
Haywood County will celebrate Tina Turner and the heritage of the Flagg Grove School during the 1st Annual Tina Turner Heritage Days on September 27-28, 2013. All proceeds from the event will go towards the restoration of Flagg Grove School. You can also help the restoration by donating here.

From fitness instructor to performing in front of 20,000 people as Tina Turner: what a difference a year makes. Emi Wokoma had such year. In April of 2012, Emi took on the role of Tina Turner in the West End musical ‘Soul Sister’. Since then, the musical went on to become one of the biggest hits of the theater season. Starting with several months at the Hackney Empire and the Savoy Theatre, the show then went on the road throughout the United Kingdom, Ireland and the Netherlands. The spectacle was unanimously applauded by the press: every reviewer especially praised the musical’s lead performer. This eventually lead to Emi being asked to perform a concert as Tina Turner, this December in the Netherlands, in front of 20,000 people. It will be the biggest Tina tribute concert ever organized. The Tina Turner Blog had an exclusive interview with Emi.
The GelreDome, a football stadium in the Dutch city of Arnhem, has become a famous place for Tina Turner fans. In 2009, Tina performed three concerts and also recorded the official DVD ‘Tina Live’ of the tour there. Now, her music is coming back to the GelreDome. December 21, 2013, a special Tina Turner tribute concert will take place under the name of ‘The Tina Turner Experience’. Unfortunately, fans can not experience the real Tina Turner. However, her music will be performed by Emi Wokoma, who also took on Tina’s role in the music ‘Soul Sister’. Joining Emi are several guest stars, to be announced later.
The show will be a full concert, based on Tina’s heydays in the 1980’s. Tickets are on sale at this website and range from 59 to 89 euro. This is surely the biggest Tina Turner tribute show that ever took place, and we are curious to see whether they can come near the success of Tina’s 2009 performances at the same venue. For more information on the show, visit the official website.
