TINA The Musical Cast

Opening Night on March 21st is already sold out and the cast for the most anticipated musical of 2018, TINA The Musical has been unveiled yesterday! In addition to Adrienne Warren who will star as TINA, we now know who will play the part of Ike, Zelma, Alline, Erwin, and Roger. Although Roger, Zelma, and Alline already entered the legend when portrayed in the 1993 Disney biopic ‘What’s Love Got To Do With It’, it is the first time that Erwin, Tina’s husband, and Craig, her first son, will be characterized!  Also a big surprise in the cast with a part for Rhonda Graam, Tina’s longtime assistant and friend who will be played by Francesca Jackson.

The rock ’n’ roll goddess has agreed to the casting of Kobna Holdbrook-Smith to play singer and music arranger Ike Turner, who controlled Tina physically, mentally and legally for 16 years, in the musical TINA, which previews at the Aldwych Theatre from March 21.

It might be painful having to watch him on stage, but I know he’s being played by an actor and he can’t hurt me

Tina worked closely with director Phyllida Lloyd, writer Katori Hall and producer Tali Pelman, the three main architects of the musical based on Turner’s turbulent years with her first husband and her years of freedom when she summoned the courage to walk out on Ike.

TINA is Back!

Tina Turner Now - 2017 (Tina Turner at 77)

Over the past eight years, the legendary Tina Turner has made worldwide headlines mostly without having to leave her peaceful retreat on the shore of Zurich’s Lake. Her name alone is sufficient to sell papers and her rarity makes her even more unreachable. But for now, the reclusive singer is back to promote the most anticipated musical of 2018, TINA, The Musical!

‘I get cards and letters. People say I gave them hope. It means so much to people. I have to pass it on. I really want it to be a success. I hope it will travel the world and serve what that the people need, from me as a reminder of my work.’

Earlier this week, a radiant Tina appeared in front of 150 happy few to introduce the very talented Adrienne Warren who will play her part in the upcoming musical. Looking incredible at nearly 78, Tina even took the stage with Warren to perform a short medley of her greatest hits. Needless to say, the atmosphere must have been electric! Being a faithful supporter of the musical since the beginning and after 8 years of blogging on TINA, gaining more than 500.000k followers, I wished I could have been there to report on this once in a lifetime event but that didn’t happen… Maybe another time… Tina showed there’s always hope so there’s still hope! But of course, no one wants to read about a sad blogger feelings, back to the Queen!

To continue with the promotion of the upcoming musical, Tina will appear on the Jonathan Ross Show broadcasted on the UK channel ITV,  Saturday, October 28th, 2017. The singer has even been spotted at the network studios right after the musical launch party creating a small buzz on Twitter! A major TV moment to look forward to being Tina’s first European interview since the promotion of ‘All The Best‘ back in 2004. Tina’s last long featured interview was of course with Oprah a few weeks after her wedding back in 2013.

Exciting times for all of us fans and we can bet that there will be much more inspiring and surprising things coming from TINA and the musical in the forthcoming months. Tickets are already selling like hot cakes and fans across the world are already asking for the show to visit their country. With the huge team of talents working on the musical, we can be pretty confident that it will be a tremendous hit. Tina always got the best simply because She is The Best! She will definitely have to be able to sing,’ she says, ‘even if she can’t dance. But she will dance, because the choreographer (Anthony van Laast) of the show will be able to pull it out of her!
‘We’re not pushing that she has to be pretty; but she has to be in shape. She can’t be fat.’

Before Skyfall, there was the GoldenEye…

Today, Her Royal Highness The Queen’s most famous agent is back! The 23rd James Bond movie ‘Skyfall’ will have its world release: and Adele penned and recorded the soundtrack. She did a terrific job – a song in  the original Bond style: a first since Tina Turner sang the title track of  GoldenEye.

Back in 1995, Bono and The Edge of U2 sent a demo track  to Tina & Roger Davies (her manager). They liked it: she recorded it, he promoted it. The result was a European hit single which led Tina to record her 1996 Wildest Dreams album and to tour the world. The song is also featured on the new album The Best Of Bond that was released this month: order on Amazon Germany, UK or USA.

On November 21, 1995, a few days short of her 56th birthday, Tina, looking stylish and radiant in black suit,  appeared at the premiere of GoldenEye at the Odeon at Leicester Square. Watch this video, including a very nice interview with Tina (big thanks to Michael for some of the video footage!), and her encounter with Prince Charles (together with Pierce Brosnan, Judi Dench & Famke Janssen). And try to spot Tina’s cute wink at the camera man!

Soul Sister – the press round-up (updated)

Last weekend, the musical Soul Sister based on Tina Turner’s career and her marriage to Ike Turner, opened in London’s Hackney Empire theater. And good news: the musical has received mostly very positive reviews, and especially Emi Wokoma’s portrayal of Tina Turner is applauded. Above, you can find a video of a BBC report on the new musical, thanks to Alan! Below is a selection of reviews that appeared on the web. We congratulate the production team of the musical on their success. What’s more, this is clearly a sign that the audience and critics alike haven’t forgotten about Tina yet – dare we say time for another comeback, Miss Turner?
